Hemorrhoid ointments: Say good-bye to your piles now

Hemorrhoids ointments are widely sold in the market. Because of the wide prevalence, pharmaceutical companies have capitalized on its treatment. About a third of American adults will develop or manifest its symptoms once in their life. Hemorrhoids are brought about by many causes. There are two types of pathological hemorrhoids. The first one is called internal hemorrhoids. In this case, it is painless but is accompanied with a bleeding rectum. The nerves involved in this type are the visceral nerves of the anus and rectum. They are usually found under the skin of the anus. On the other hand, external hemorrhoids are very painful. This type usually involves somatic nerves thus explaining why it is painful.

Hemorrhoids can happen at any age but often happens after 30 years old. About half of American Adults 50 years old and up have symptoms of it. Around 75% of people get it at some point in their lives. There are a lot of signs and symptoms but usually they vary for the two types. For the internal type, the common symptom is a tinge of bright red blood on the stool, in toilet bowl or toilet paper after bowel movement. On the other hand, the most common manifestation of the external kind is blood clots. Although there are symptoms, not everyone who has the disease may manifest symptoms. Hemorrhoids ointments usually help in relieving the aforementioned signs and symptoms.

One of the commonly used ointments is the Heel Hemorrhoidal Ointment. This ointment is manufactured in Germany. Its active ingredients are Paeonia officinalis. While on the other hand, its inactive ingredients are ethanol, purified water, paraffin, white petrolatum and acetyl stearyl alchohol. To use this, first wash the affected area using water and mild soap. Liberally apply it over the affected area for 3 times a day.

Another commonly used ointment is the Avenoc Ointment. This ointment is made by the Boiron Pharmaceutical Company. It active ingredients are Aesculus hippocastanum, Hamamelis virginiana and Collinsonia Canadensis. While on the other hand, its inactive ingredient is white petrolatum. To use it, cleanse the hemorrhoids first using warm water and mild soap. Rinse the area and pat it dry using a clean towel. Apply the ointment over the area about four times daily.

Another commonly used ointment is the Tucks Ointment. This ointment is made by the McNeil PPC Laboratories. According to its makers, this ointment is the brand used in hospitals. It relieves the different signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids. It relieves burning, itching, pain and discomfort. It also heals the damaged and irritated tissues. It also leaves a protective coating over the affected tissue. Its active ingredients are Mineral Oil (46.6%, a protectant), Zinc Oxide (12.5%, another protectant) and Pramoxine HCl (1%, pain reliever). Meanwhile, its inactive components are calcium phosphate dibasic, benzyl benzoate, glyceryl monoleate, kaolin, cocoa butter, glyceryl monostrearate, polyethylene wax and Peruvian balsam.

Before applying the ointment, clean the area using soap and warm water. You can air dry it or dry it using a clean towel. After this, liberally apply the ointment over the infected area. Repeat the process five times a day.

If allergic reactions happen in the process of using any of the medications aforementioned, discontinue using it. Allergic reactions to these medications may include swelling, redness, irritation and pain of the affected area. In extreme cases, rectal bleeding can also occur.
