Hemorrhoids develop when veins in the anal canal become swollen and distorted. It is a common problem, and can cause pain but is usually not very dangerous. There are both internal and external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids develop by swelling of veins inside the anal canal swell and external is the swelling of veins near the opening of the canal. One can have both at one time.

Bleeding Hemorrhoids

Dip in warm water

Fill some warm–not hot–water into a tub and dip for up to 15 minutes 3 times each day. The warm water will help ease the hemorrhoids and reduce some of the swelling. This in turn will decrease the occurrence of blood loss and will also help in keeping the area clean.

Apply skin medications.

Creams and lotions developed for treatment of hemorrhoids will also decrease discomfort while also dealing with the discomfort that led to the bleeding. Focus attention on lotions and ointments that are safe to use when there is still bleeding present, and follow the product guidelines carefully

Try a sitz shower.

This includes the use of a shower device that fits easily over the bathroom and makes it possible to enjoy a continuous flow of relaxing water to the place around the hemorrhoids. Like the tub dip, this approach can bring some much needed comfort and decrease the occurrence of bleeding hemorrhoids.

Apply cold bandages to reduce puffiness and discomfort

The application of cold compresses to the rectum can go a long way toward reducing the discomfort and allow your natural healing process to start reducing the inflamed hemorrhoids. As part of the process, this will also decrease the development of patches on the infected tissue and reduce the bleeding caused by hemorrhoids.

Do not scratch the affected area

While the enticement to do so may seem almost frustrating, damaging will only increase the blood loss and discomfort, causing additional stress on the already soft hemorrhoids and possibly leading to further infection. Any temporary comfort that is obtained with damaging will only cause to greater discomfort in a very short period of time frame.

Substitute wet towelettes for bathroom tissue.

Even the softest manufacturers of bathroom tissue can be too rough when hemmordiods are developed. Use most towelettes that include natural aloe-vera and other soothing ingredients that will not cause to further discomfort, giving the bleeding hemorrhoids chance to start treatment. If towelettes are not easily obtainable, cover the area with a soft fabric that is moistened with cool to tepid water, making sure not to rub!
