The vascular structures that are present in the anal canal and helps with stool control are known as hemorrhoids. Usually when they are inflamed, they become piles. From physiological point of view, these vascular structures act like cushions that are composed of a number of connective tissues. There is a big difference between internal and external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are covered with different cells that are same as those cells that are present in the intestines, and these internal hemorrhoids are located above the pectinate line. On the other hand, external hemorrhoids lie within the anus and are found very painful as well. External hemorrhoids are usually prolapsed and enlarged from the outside, this is why they can be seen very easily. This is a very painful condition and is known as thrombosis.
There are different sizes, shapes, colors and smells of hemorrhoids that totally depends on the types and condition of hemorrhoids. If an internal hemorrhoid faces a condition of thrombosis, it can look very frightening and usually it can become purple or blue in color and bleeding is also possible in some cases. Regardless of their appearance, thrombosis is not very serious, but causes severe pain. When after weeks of thrombosis pain, it becomes unbearable, then there is no other option than removing thrombosed hemorrhoid that causes pain. It has been researched that more than forty percent of people suffer from hemorrhoids somewhere in their life and it usually happens between the age of 20 to 50. Researchers are not really sure that what are the causes of hemorrhoids but somehow weak veins leads of hemorrhoids pain. It is sometimes inherited as well.
Like colors, hemorrhoids are different from each other in term of shapes and sizes. Diet plays a great role in causing as well as preventing hemorrhoids. Fiber is very good for preventing hemorrhoids. People whose fiber intake are sufficient are usually safe from the pain of hemorrhoids. Contrary to this, people who eat high processed foods are more likely to face hemorrhoids in their future. Those diets that do not contain any fiber or a very less amount of it, usually become a cause of constipation, that can make hemorrhoids to function in two ways – firstly promotion of straining during movement of bowel and secondly aggravating the hemorrhoids by production of the hard stools that results in irritation and causes inflammation of veins.
As mentioned above, internal hemorrhoids are much more common in people and there are 4 grades of internal hemorrhoids. These four grades include:
•Grade 1: Usually this grade is not that painful but causes inflammation. It stays inside the anal canal and can’t be seen from outside. This grade can become severe if swollen more and more with time.
•Grade 2: This grade can be seen a little from outside because it is sometimes pushed outside the anal canal by stools but they always retract by their own. Usually it becomes painful when it comes outside the anal, if it stays inside, then it does not cause much pain.
•Grade 3: When internal hemorrhoids becomes severe, they come outside the anal canal causing a lot of pain that becomes unbearable.
•Grade 4: In this grade, it stays outside the anal canal and this stage needs to get treated as soon as possible.
