Hemorrhoids in teenagers, children and adults are usually solved with medicines, creams or by natural means. But there would be always cases wherein none of the treatments suggested to them have successfully removed the hemorrhoids. This type of rectal problems is probably the most severe one and the only remaining solution for it is through surgery. Many find the word surgery too strong or intense while some may find it very practical and convenient. Nonetheless, surgery will always be risky no matter how one looks at it.
Risks
The number one surgery risk associated with removing hemorrhoids in teenagers is bleeding. Once the surgeon commits an error, bleeding will most likely occur since the area is surrounded with veins and arteries. The continuous flow of blood will be life threatening once it is not controlled immediately. Another risk that comes with this surgery is infection. Almost all surgeries will deal with an open flesh or wound. This means that the skin will no longer be there to protect the flesh from bacteria and viruses since it has already been sliced open. Once the utensils and the environment are not properly sterilized, the open flesh may become infected. Signs of an infection will not show up immediately and this is why the rectal area should be monitored closely during the recovery period.
Surgical Procedure: Hemorrhoidectomy
Hemorrhoidectomy is the most common procedure in removing the hemorrhoids from the body. The procedure uses general anesthetics since the pain experienced here can become very severe for a person to handle. The surgery starts by carefully opening the canal so as to expose the affected area. Once the hemorrhoids are exposed, the surgeon can now easily remove them by cutting them out.
This surgical procedure is very susceptible to bleeding so patients should only hire experienced and skilled surgeons. Cutting out the hemorrhoids is very painful and the pain can also be experienced when recovering from the surgery. Fortunately, the pain is usually aided with painkillers throughout the recovery period. The patient may also have difficulties during bowel movement since the affected area is still sore from the surgery. This is why patients are advised to change their diet into a high fiber one. The high fiber diet is usually composed of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The presence of fibers inside the body will help make the stool softer. Expelling the softer stool would mean that the anus won’t receive as much pressure as it would receive from hard stools.
Hemorrhoidectomy is more effective in preventing hemorrhoids in teenagers from coming back again than the other surgical procedures. But among all the procedures, hemerrhoidectomy is probably the most risky one. Since the patient is usually released hours after the procedure, he or she must look out for blood clot formations and continuous bleeding at home. These signs indicate that problems are present and they are probably related to errors or infections. Once these signs do show up, it is important for that patient to immediately go back to the hospital so as to get the area checked.
