One of the finest ways to relieve the swelling, hurting or bleeding hemorrhoids is to make changes in your diet. There are variety of foods and drinks that you can munch on to reduce the distress and avoid the bad ones that will only worsen your condition.

Choosing healthy foods is a leap in achieving wellness for your stomach and whole body. You have to add more beneficial ones and delete the harmful ones.

•Fiber rich foods. Add more roughage in your meal like whole grains (oats, bran, rye, rice), green leafy vegetables (cabbage, lettuce), carrots, green beans, eggplant, Brussels sprouts, fruits (apple, berries, oranges, pears, prunes, apricots) and legumes (soy beans, chick peas, kidney beans, lima beans). All of these compose of fiber that will aid in forming soft and easy to eliminate stools. It doesn’t only make our stools bulky but it speeds up the elimination of waste products in the digestion. The recommended diet per day is 20-30 grams and you can also utilize the fiber supplements (methylcellulose or psyllium). Increase your intake gradually and expect gas or stomach cramps if eaten too much but as the system and normal flora of the tummy adjust, the gas will eventually fade out.

•Drink one glass daily of juices from blueberries, cherries and blackberries combined with apple juice. These have valuable contents that aid in lessening the pain and bulging, it also helps to strengthen anal veins.

•For bleeding and inflamed hemorrhoids, you can try eating yam, tamarind and rice and pair it with drinks like hot milk with lemon juice or chamomile tea. These have relaxing effects on the swelled veins, itchiness and inhibit bleeding. If these drinks are not available, just increase your water consumption to 8 glasses daily to avoid losing of moisture in the digestion. To compensate for the bleeding and to boost your iron, eat foods rich in Iron found in raisins, chicken liver, prunes, baked potatoes, cashews, broccoli, apricots, tuna, pistachios and kelp.

•Use the following oils when cooking or when making salads:

-Flaxseed oil- This oil has high levels of omega 3 fats, a group of essential fatty acids. Omega 3 oils have anti-inflammatory properties which will help reduce the inflammation of your hemorrhoids. Flaxseed oil is also high in fiber and is effective in reducing pain.

-Olive oil

Besides these, you may also take fish oil supplements but buy those with pure fish oil only as low quality capsules may let you experience side effects like bad breath.

•Spices like garlic, ginger and onion are also foods that help eliminate hemorrhoids. Include these in your diet but remember to not eat too much of these because if you do, your condition may just be worsened. These three work by breaking down fibrin, a natural substance which helps repair damages in arteries, organs and tissues.

If you do not like eating raw garlic, ginger and onion then you may just add these as a topping to your dishes or add these to sauces.

• The following iron-rich foods will help build your blood: steamed crab, chicken liver, dried apricots, prunes, pistachios, sunflower seeds, baked potatoes, sesame seeds, almonds, cashews, cooked swiss chard, cooked broccoli, raisins and cantaloupe (besides containing lots of minerals and vitamins, cantaloupes also has anti-clogging properties).

•Juices, especially fresh and dark berry juices, are effective in eliminating hemorrhoids. Some of the dark berry juices which you should consume are the following:

-Black and red currant berries- Currants are rich in minerals, rutins, and vitamin C which make them able to clear hemorrhoids. They also contain a fatty acid called GLA which helps the body to produce enough prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are substances in the body which reduces pain. To eliminate hemorrhoids, drink at least 2 glasses of black or red currant juices.

-Blueberries, blackberries and cherries- Because of the substances called “proanthocyanidins” and “anthocyanins” which these berries contain, the swelling and inflammation of your hemorrhoids will be reduced. They do these by strengthening and toning the hemorrhoidal veins. Drink at least one glass every day.

These juices are also good for cleansing the liver and blood. Good liver function is necessary for maintaining a healthy colon, rectum and anus.

•Cantaloupes are one of the best foods you can eat. It has a good source of vitamins and minerals. It has a high beta-carotene level and has anti-clogging properties.

•Although pomegranate juice may be hard to find, it is quite useful in reducing hemorrhoids, because of its strong astringency. Saturate a cotton ball with pomegranate juice and push it slightly into your rectum.

If you have pinworms, the tannins in pomegranate juice will help you get rid of them. You can also drink the juice. During the summer I have on occasion found pomegranate juice at a farmers market. It is slightly tart but it is easy to drink. However, it’s hard to drink more than a glass full without getting a stomach upset.

•Eat 2-3 oranges and 2 bananas a day. Oranges provide vitamin C, bioflavonoids, and fiber. Bananas provide minerals that help to strengthen tissue and have plenty of fiber. Bananas can also be steamed to give more relief and even eliminate hemorrhoids. Steam two not quite ripe bananas with their peel until they are soft. Eat two in the morning and two in the evening.

•Papaya is an excellent fruit to eat. It has good mineral content, fiber, and has enzymes to digest protein.

•Avoid large amount of alcohol, wine, sodas, beer, and coffee as these promote sensitivity in the anal veins especially if it’s inflamed. Also avoid refined foods like high in fat and protein, white flour products, sugary sweets and low in complex carbohydrates, all of these lack fiber and are considered culprit foods.

Modification of your food preferences is one of the essential moves that will heal your hemorrhoids. Just choose wisely from the variety of healthy foods to keep your condition in good state.
